Located within the five star Lowndes London hotel in Belgravia, AVI is a French American restaurant developed as a refined refurbishment completed within an accelerated programme. Delivered over one week of design and one and a half weeks on site, the project demonstrates how carefully considered interventions can transform the atmosphere and identity of an existing space with minimal structural change.
The design introduces a series of targeted material and lighting upgrades that reframe the character of the hotel lobby and dining room. New wall treatments, carpet finishes, and bespoke bar detailing establish a warmer, more layered interior, balancing the elegance of a luxury hotel setting with the energy and informality of a contemporary brasserie. Updated lighting was used strategically throughout to soften the existing architecture, create intimacy across the dining areas, and strengthen the visual prominence of the corner bar as the social focal point of the space.
Drawing influence from classic French bistro interiors, the material palette and atmosphere were developed to complement the restaurant’s culinary direction. Rich textures, warm ambient lighting, and refined detailing reinforce the balance between indulgence and familiarity found throughout the menu, from elevated comfort dishes to seafood and caviar led plates, creating an environment that feels both sophisticated and approachable.
Working within the constraints of a live hotel environment required a highly coordinated and responsive approach. The refurbishment was carefully phased to minimise disruption while delivering a complete visual transformation within a condensed timeframe. The resulting interior reflects the restaurant’s French American identity through a restrained palette, atmospheric lighting, and tactile finishes.
