Eat Tokyo is located at 150 Holborn on Chancery Lane. Its position in Central London makes it a perfect location for a diverse range of clientele, and we designed it with this in mind.
The client’s vision included a Japanese Shinto gate and lantern, both of which were incorporated into the restaurant’s entrance. Together, they create a warm, luminous threshold for guests. Its minimalist interior makes use of natural materials and creates an inviting atmosphere and authentic Japanese feel.
From the outset, the project demanded careful planning due to the site’s location. The building holds an Outstanding BREEAM rating, and as such, the proposals had to satisfy additional sustainability and performance criteria. To guarantee compliance, we worked closely with the landlord throughout the project. The ventilation system needed additional engineering work to accommodate the size of the kitchen, which we oversaw. We also ensured that acoustic requirements, planning conditions, and ventilation performance, including component sizing and extraction rates, aligned with the building’s enhanced regulations.
The space accommodates four different dining settings. Window-side bays overlook Chancery Lane, while gallery seating is set against large-scale mural artworks. The main hall is fitted to serve shabu shabu hotpots, and a lower-level private dining room provides an exclusive setting for events and special occasions. The fitout also included a seated sushi counter, as well as a bar, to allow for multiple different kinds of service. Great consideration was given to ensuring that the layout supported efficient service and operations for the staff, as well as varied service options for customers.
Planning is complete, and construction is underway. Upon completion, the restaurant will offer an immersive and authentic dining experience to a diverse range of clientele in the heart of the city.
