This project marks the UK debut of Kamakura, introducing therenowned Japanese dessert brand and its signature warabi-mochi to a prominent locationwithin John Lewis’ flagship Oxford Street store.
Delivered within an accelerated three-week programme, the brief called for a high-impact concept and brand presence capable of standing out within the busy department store environment whilst facilitating a highlyefficient operational layout, with a high-volume service counter operatingacross three sides of the kiosk.
Developed in close collaboration with the John Lewis retailteam, the project successfully navigated the department store’s rigorous designand construction requirements.

· The project was delivered within an accelerated three-week programme, comprising two weeks of technical design and one week onsite. Off-site fabrication and precision-manufactured joinery enabled rapid installation,minimising disruption while maintaining a high standard of build quality andfinish.
· A defining feature of the scheme is theinstallation of bespoke suspended red lanterns, which act as both a visualbeacon and a key element of Kamakura’s brand expression. Handmade by a Japanesefamily with more than a century of lantern and umbrella-making heritage, the lanterns celebrate traditional craftsmanship while creating a memorable focalpoint within the retail environment.
